Empowers” in Don Bosco Literacy Centers-Battambang
Don
Bosco Children Fund supervises two Don Bosco Literacy Centers in Battambang
since 2000. The objective of the Literacy
Centers is “Every Child, a Reader Program”, to focus on the development of
the out-of-school children, aged 10-15 to be mentally, psychologically and
physically capable to learn the basic knowledge (reading, writing, speaking,
listening, arithmetic and social studies) of elementary education in a
three-year intensive schooling through a “School Based Management”.
On July 20, 2007, fifty students were certified and qualified for school year 2007-2008 in the government schools. These certificates were approved by Cambodia’s Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.

DBCF
coordinates the construction of a Village Elementary School “Koh
Rokar” in the spirit of “Education for all”. Holland’s
Scholenproject has supported this building a six-classroom and health
facilities for the elementary school at the village in Kompong Cham
Province under the pastoral activity of Fr. Gerard Vogin, MEP.
REPAIR WORKS FOR THE DBCF NEW OFFICES AND SECRETARIAT: AUGUST 7 TO SEPTEMBER 16
DBCF staff,
teachers and students of the Technical School showed their teamwork to make the
“old place , new” by cleaning, refurnishing and painting the buildings and
fences of the center that will be called the “AUXILIUM HAUS”. One building
serves as the school’s show room for marketing, productions and
services. A truly salesian apostolate will soon be opened hear: “M’lop
Kh’thom” (shady hut) for the HIV/AIDS orphaned street children.

Opportunities were again offered to more that 4,500 children who are being
supported by Project Don Bosco Children Fund in fifteen provinces of Cambodia.
The staff started with a seminar on October 3, 2007. The theme was to renew the
vision statement of “becoming Don Bosco of Today” educating and animating
the children in the spirituality of Don Bosco.
On
going Cultural Integration Activity
Sixty
students and teachers from the Don Bosco literacy Centers-Battambang organized a
cultural integration activity during 4-6 Oct 2007 with a visit a modern Phnom
Penh and its historical places like the Tuol Sleng Prision, the Killing Fields,
and the Royal Palace. They also visited the Don Bosco Elementary School of Phum
Chress, Don Bosco Technical School Phnom Penh Thmey and the new Don Bosco
Children Fund Offices at Tuol Kork

BOSCO HOSTS SERVICE LEARNING FOR SINGAPORE YOUTH VOLUNTEERS
Volunteerism
Fever with Don Bosco is a tradition since 1991. Young and old spend precious
moments in a meaningful way with the poor, orphaned and marginalized
beneficiaries of Don Bosco in the Land of the Killing Fields, Cambodia. Twenty
youth volunteers from Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education College
organized “Youth Expedition Project” from 6-19 December. Muslim, Buddhist
and Christian faith affiliations experience interfaith harmony in favor of
cultural and educational development and DBCF characteristics of “family
spirit”.
